Nirav Modi, His Family Served Notices To Recover Rs. 7,000 Crore

The Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) today sent notice to fugitive jeweller Nirav Modi, his family members and his companies to recover over Rs. 7,000 crore in dues. The notices by the DRT-1 Registrar A Murali came six months after the beleaguered Punjab National Bank (PNB) had moved the tribunal in July to recover around Rs. 7,029 crore.

Can't return to India, I will be lynched: Nirav Modi writes to ED

Nirav Modi, accused in the Rs 13,600-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, has written to the ED via mail that he cannot return to India as his former employees who have not been paid salaries, landlords who have not been paid rents, customers whose jewellery has been confiscated by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other agencies and several other people have threatened him.

Absconding diamantaire Nirav Modi is afraid of "getting lynched" and hence cannot return to India, his lawyer told at special-court. The ED, however, dismissed the claim stating he should have filed a-police-complaint if he felt there were "security-threats". Modi's lawyer Vijay Agarwal was arguing before PMLA court Judge MS Azmi against ED's application to declare Modi a fugitive under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.
