JDU leader Prashant Kishor finds NRC final list botched up

Poll strategist and JD(U) vice president Prashant Kishor on Sunday termed Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) as 'botched up' which has left 'lakhs of people as foreigners in their own country.' Stating that the exercise was misunderstood as a solution for a 'complex issue related to national security,' Kishor said the NRC was implemented without paying attention to strategic and systemic challenges.

27,000 Foreigners Stopped While Entering India Illegally: Centre To Court

The Centre told the SC that 938 people are detained in six detention centres in Assam and 823 of them have been declared as foreigners by tribunals. The Centre was responding to the January-28 queries of the Supreme Court which had asked the Centre and the state to provide details of functional detention centres in Assam and foreigners detained in them during the last-10-years.

Centre considers work permit to NRC leftouts

The Union home ministry is considering a proposal to grant-work-permits, among other measures, to people living in Assam who do not qualify as citizens of India for inclusion in NRC, senior-government functionary said. The proposal, if accepted and implemented, will enable those who are delisted as-Indian-citizens to continue to live and work in India although they will be deprived of their right to vote.
