Asian stocks take a breather after days of declines

Shares in Asia traded cautiously on Friday morning on the back of a report suggesting the U.S. Federal Reserve could consider a slower tempo of increasing interest rates than had been previously expected. The mainland Chinese markets, watched in relation to Beijing's trade dispute with Washington, were cautious in early trade as both the Shanghai composite and the Shenzhen composite were largely flat.

OPEC expected to cut oil production to support price

OPEC countries were meeting to find a way to support the falling price of oil, with analysts predicting the cartel and some key allies, like Russia, would agree to cut production by at least 1 million barrels per day. The price of both benchmark US crude and the standard for internationally traded oil fell 22 percent in November.

Qatar to withdraw from OPEC and focus on gas exports

Qatar will withdraw from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in January after nearly 60 years, country's energy minister Saad al-Kaabi said. The decision to withdraw from OPEC came after Qatar reviewed ways to enhance its role internationally and plan its long-term strategy. Qatar is one of OPEC's smallest producers but the world's largest liquefied natural gas exporter.
