Applying for new PAN card? Check out rules that came into effect today

New Permanent Account Number (PAN) card rules issued by the Department of Revenue have been implemented starting Wednesday (December 5) for allowing flexibility to new taxpayers and to check tax evasion. Under the new PAN card rules, mentioning father's name in the application forms will not be mandatory for select applicants who only have their mother as a parent.

The income tax department said quoting of father's name in PAN application forms will not be mandatory in cases where mother of the applicant is a single parent. Currently, furnishing father's name is mandatory for the allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN). The new rules would come into effect from December 5.

About 50% of PANs linked with Aadhaar till now: Data

Over 21.08cr Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) have been linked with Aadhaar till now, the latest data revealed as the Supreme Court today upheld the validity of the linkage between the two databases. As per official figures, a total of 21,08,16,676 PANs issued by the Income Tax Department have been linked with Aadhaar till Monday. The total operational or issued PANs are over 41.02cr (41,02,66,969).
