59,000 persons die of rabies every year, says WHO

Loss of human lives due to rabies is put at 59,000 per year in the world. Rabies is a notoriously underreported and neglected disease of low income countries. It is a fatal disease and survival after onset of symptoms is almost zero. Rabies is largely transmitted to humans through bites by infected animals predominantly from bites of dogs.
BBMP's decision to cap pet numbers peeves dog lovers

BBMP decision to limit the number of pet dogs that can be reared in apartments and individual houses hasn't gone down well with pet parents. While owners are worried about having to part with their pets, activists feel the move will lead to an abandonment of dogs. The government recently approved the Palike's pet dog licensing regulations and BBMP issued an official release on Monday.
