Petrol prices up 15 paisa, diesel by 17 paisa as crude hits $ 70 mark

Petrol prices on Monday were hiked by 15 paise a litre and diesel rates were increased by 17 paise. The latest hike came as global oil prices hit USD 70 mark in the wake of escalating US-Iran tensions fanning The retail pump prices of petrol in Delhi rose to Rs 75.69 per litre the highest since November 2018.

Surging global oil-prices will pose a first big-challenge to new-government, whoever wins an election now under way, especially as domestic-prices have been allowed to lag, meaning consumers are in for a-painful-surge as they catch-up. For oil-import dependent India, higher global-prices could lead to a-weaker-rupee, higher inflation, the ruling out of interest-rate-cuts and could further weigh on twin current account and budget deficits, economists warned.

Petrol, diesel prices hiked again on Friday

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Friday as global crude oil prices cross $61/barrel for the first time in 2019. Petrol price has been hiked by Rs.8-paise while diesel rates have gone up by 19-20-paise across the country. In Delhi, petrol price is slowly inching towards the Rs.71/litre mark while a litre of diesel will almost cost Rs.65/litre in Delhi.
