Number of debit cards fell 11% year-on-year in June

The number of debit cards in circulation dropped over 11% between June 2018 and June 2019 to 837 million, as per data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and shared by payment service provider Worldline in a recent report. The drop in cards outstanding was a result of mass closure of zero-balance accounts, Worldline said.
Debit cards show up more at retail stores

Bank customers are increasingly getting comfortable making payments through debit cards on swipe machines at kirana stores and local retail outlets. Latest data from the RBI show that over a third of all debit card transactions were made at point of sale (PoS) terminals in April this year for the first time since demonetisation.
Grofers Partners With Yes Bank to Deliver Cash At Customers Homes

Yes Bank has now tied-up with e-grocer Grofers, to deliver cash at customer’s homes. Grofers customers will be able to get currency notes delivered to their door steps, up to INR 2000 through Yes Bank POS machine along with the grocery order. Yes Bank has partnered with Grofers for supplying cash across 3 cities, Mumbai, Gurgaon and Bengaluru.
