Air Conditioners to burn up your electricity bill by 2030

Blame it on rising temperatures, blame it on rising industrialization, or blame it on both, but air conditioning is going to be the biggest power consumer in the coming years. As per a report by Brookings India, the share of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, which is currently over 50% of the total commercial demand, would rise to 75% in the segment by 2030.

Coal-based power plants are also facing the brunt of rise in diesel prices with 837 MW of generation units running on diesel reducing their electricity generation by 37% y-o-y to less than 80 million units (MU) in the April-September period. A sudden rise in electricity demand in the wake of inadequate coal supply is precariously pushing power plants towards outages.
