Pragya Singh Thakur, first-time BJP-parliamentarian from Madhya Pradesh, was admonished by her party for her comment that she "wasn't elected to get drains and toilets cleaned". Sources say BJP's working-president JP Nadda disapproved of the comments and told the controversial-politician to refrain from such utterances. Many saw the statement as arrogant and at odds with PM Modi's "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" or clean India mission.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi today hit out at BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur for her comment that Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, was a "deshbhakt (patriot)". The 65-year-old child rights activist posted a message on Twitter warning the nation that comments by people like Pragya Thakur were "killing the soul of India".

MP Election Officer Submits Report On Pragya Thakur's Remark On Godse

The Madhya Pradesh chief electoral officer has submitted a report to the Election Commission over BJP's Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Singh Thakur calling Mahatma Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse a "patriot". Pragya Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, had made the comment during a roadshow in the state on Thursday and later, apologised saying that she respected the Father of the Nation.
