Media freedom intact under BJP rule, says Prakash Javadekar

The media will have full freedom under the BJP rule, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said on August 12. The senior BJP leader said he had spent several months in jail during the Emergency (1975-77), imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to uphold freedom of the press. Addressing a press-conference, Javadekar said media freedom remains intact under the BJP government.

News Broadcasters Association's Board Members Meet Prakash Javadekar

The board members of the News Broadcasters Association met Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar in Delhi and discussed several "important -issues" concerning the news-industry. The meeting was "extremely positive on a number of key matters", including new-technologies in broadcasting, a statement released by the NBA said. The delegation was led by Rajat Sharma of India TV, who is the president of the board.

Parliament session likely to be extended till August 7: Sources

The government has decided to extend the Parliament-session till August-7, official sources said on July-25. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, sources said. The government had indicated on July-24 that the ongoing Parliament-session could be extended. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had said the Opposition has always demanded that Parliament should meet for more number-of-days.
