President Trump's decision to torpedo a bipartisan spending bill and demand $5.7 billion for construction of a-wall-along the Mexico border led large parts of federal government to shut down on Saturday, testing the political wills of Democrats and Republicans in final-days of 2018. It's unclear how long a shutdown might last. Trump predicted earlier that it could drag on for a "very long time."

President Donald Trump managed to spend two days in the company of world leaders he has long antagonized without any visible eruptions. Trump signed on to a statement of principles with the other leaders at the Group of 20 summit, the kind of document he refused to endorse at a summit in Canada a few months earlier.
