The Punjab government has dismissed three-policemen and a security-personnel from service for not helping their colleague who was being thrashed by a mob. "This act of cowardly behaviour is unacceptable in a uniformed force," CM Amarinder Singh wrote on Facebook, after a video of the assault was widely shared on social media. The police team was held captive and was rescued by additional forces.

A day-long bandh by the Valmiki community against the telecast of a controversial TV serial provoked incidents of violence in parts of Punjab on Saturday in which a man was shot at in Jalandhar. The bandh, called by the Valmiki Action Committee against the TV serial ''Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush'', threw life out of gear as markets remained largely shut.

AAP has launched a membership drive called 'Aam Aadmi Army' in Punjab. State AAP chief Bhagwant Mann said AAP volunteers in towns and villages will choose their own team heads as part of the drive. "In these times of mafia raj of Captain Amarinder's government and the Badals, Aam Aadmi Army members will fight like a civil army," Mann added.
