India's coal growth driven by state as private funds flee

The country will experience the largest increase in coal burning through 2023, according to the International Energy Agency, with a 3.9% annual pace of growth that should be enough to offset falling consumption in developed countries. The curious thing is that when you look at the Indian power sector, there are few signs it's on the brink of a boom.

Seci invites bids for 2,400 MW renewable energy generation plants

The state-run Seci has invited renewal energy companies to put forward bids for setting up wind and solar plants of 1,200 MW each. The FY19 renewable capacity addition target had been set at 15,600 MW, comprising 10,000 MW and 4,000 MW of wind and solar, respectively. About 11,778 MW of renewable power was added in FY18, failing to achieve the target of 14,500 MW.

Macquarie looks to buy Canadian Solar's India business

Sydney-based infrastructure asset management group Macquarie Group Ltd is looking to acquire the solar-power assets of Canadian Solar in India, said two-people close to development, requesting anonymity. Macquarie's decision comes at-a-time when access to funds for renewable energy is drying-up in India. Ontario-based Canadian Solar is a global energy provider with subsidiaries in 20 countries. It is a leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic modules.
