Top Court To Hear Plea On Deportation Of Illegal Immigrants, Rohingyas

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a PIL seeking identification and deportation of all illegal immigrants and infiltrators including Bangladesh nationals and Rohingyas. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta took note of submission of lawyer and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashwini Upadhyay that his plea, which was filed in 2017, be listed for an urgent hearing.

India, Bangladesh Border Forces Probe How 31 Rohingya Got Stuck In Border

31 Rohingya Muslims are stuck in no-man's land, holed-up behind the barbed wire fencing along the Bangladesh border in Tripura since Friday, while a-blame-game is on between border guards of two-countries over their refuge. The BSF officials said six-men, nine women and 16 children were detained by BGB and are behind the fencing at Rayermura in West Tripura district, about 15 km from Agartala.

SC refuses to stop deportation of 7 Rohingya refugees

The Supreme Court has refused to interfere in the Centre's decision to deport seven Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. A plea was filed seeking restraint on Centre's order for deporting the refugees from Assam's Silchar detention centre, over their illegal stay. Over 14,000 Rohingyas are registered with the UN refugee agency while 40,000 are estimated to be living in India.
