RTI reveals that more than Rs 1 lakh crore in PMJDY accounts

More than Rs 1 lakh crore have been deposited in over 36-crore bank accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), reveals an RTI. Chandrashekhar Gaur, a social worker from Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh, filed the RTI seeking the details of the PMJDY from the Ministry of Finance. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2014.

Senior UP Doctor Fined For Not Providing Information Under RTI

The Uttar Pradesh information commission has imposed a fine of Rs.25,000 on the CMO of Shamli district for not providing information under the RTI Act, an official said. A man named Ismael had filed an RTI application in 2014 but the CMO did not respond, the official said. According to the Registrar of the commission, the district authorities have been informed about the order.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that proposes to empower the Centre to set the salaries and service conditions of information commissioners at central and state levels.
