"Chernobyl On Ice": Russia Launches First-Ever Floating Nuclear Reactor

Russia launched the world's first floating nuclear reactor, sending it on an epic journey across the Arctic on Friday, despite environmentalists warning of a "Chernobyl on ice." Loaded with nuclear fuel, the Akademik Lomonosov left the Arctic port of Murmansk to begin its 5,000-kilometre (3,000-mile) voyage to Pevek in northeastern Siberia. Work began on the 144-metre (472-foot) Akademik Lomonosov in Saint Petersburg in 2006.

Russia sends its first humanoid robot Fedor into space

The Russian space agency Roscosmos on Thursday sent an unmanned rocket carrying a life-size humanoid robot Fedor (Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research) to space. The robot is scheduled to spend 10 days learning to assist astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS). It repeated the first man to space, Yuri Gagarin's launch phrase, "Let's go! Let's go!" on being launched.

Russia Says US Missile Test 'Escalation Of Military Tensions'

Moscow on Tuesday said the United States was ramping up military tensions by testing a medium-range cruise missile weeks after tearing up a pact with Russia. "This is all a cause of regret. The US has obviously taken a course towards escalation of military tensions. We won't react to provocations," Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov told state news agency TASS.
