Elephant lovers win final round as government lifts ban on celebrity jumbo

Elephant-lovers have won the final round before Thrissur Pooram, Kerala's biggest cultural pageant. As before, celebrity one-eyed jumbo, 'Thechikottukavu Ramachandran,' affectionately called Raman, will be present at opening of Vadakumnathan Temple's southern-gate to inaugurate the festival on Sunday. Earlier too, Raman had killed 11-persons and gored two-other-elephants, leading to two six-month bans on public appearances by the jumbo imposed by the Kerala High Court.

Sabarimala temple body hits streets again, protests outside Secretariat

The Sabarimala Karma Samiti, an apex body of various Hindu organisations opposing the September 28 verdict on the hill temple, began its hymn- chanting protest outside the state secretariat on Saturday seeking the withdrawal of cases against its workers. It alleged that the police were hounding its workers and most of them could not carry out their routine activities due to innumerable cases.
