
Actor Mahesh Babu's Bank Accounts Frozen Over Tax Dues

The Goods and Services Tax department said it has attached the bank accounts of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu to recover service tax dues from him. According to a press-release issued by the Hyderabad GST Commissionarate, Mahesh Babu has not paid the Service Tax during 2007-08 for the taxable services he rendered as brand ambassador, appearance money and advertising for promotion of products among others.
LIC gets Rs 2,050 crore service tax evasion notice

The Life Insurance Corporation of India, the country's largest insurance company, has received an Rs 2,050-crore service tax notice from the Directorate-General of Goods & Services Tax Intelligence. Tax officials said the notice was issued by the DGGI's Kolkata zonal office for alleged "suppression of facts with intent to evade payment of service tax" on forfeited policies (policies discontinued because of non-payment of premium).

Number of people not paying service charge has increased: Survey

The number of people who did not pay/refused to pay the service charge at restaurants has increased, according to a recent survey that revealed a hike in the number to 37% in January from 35% in November. The survey, conducted by Local Circles a social-engagement-platform said it interviewed 8,013-people , who visited air-conditioned restaurants in January, for their experience with the service charge.
