Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday assured her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that her government would never allow the country's soil to be used by any terrorist organisation under its "zero tolerance policy". Terming the spread of radicalism as a "grave threat" not only to the two countries but to the entire region, India and Bangladesh last-year resolved to step up anti-terror cooperation.

Sheikh Hasina takes oath as Bangladesh PM for third consecutive term

Sheikh Hasina was sworn in as Bangladesh's PM for a record fourth-term after her Awami League's landslide victory in recent elections that was marred by deadly violence and allegations of vote rigging. President Md Abdul Hamid administered the oath of office to 71-year-old Hasina at the Bangabhaban for a record-third-consecutive-term. Hasina was first elected PM in 1996 and then again in 2008 and 2014.

Sheikh Hasina led-Awami League appears to be on course to a landslide victory in Sunday's parliamentary polls in Bangladesh despite ISI's alleged ploy to unseat the government that had taken ties with India at a new level during the past the decade. Awami League won 121 seats declared so far and leading in another 100 seats with Opposition BNP winning only two seats.
