Armed with a SC order, Communist Party of India general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday met his ailing party colleague Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami who has been under house arrest since August 5. Sitaram Yechury arrived in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir in the afternoon and was escorted by the police to meet Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami at his Gupkar Road residence in Srinagar's Civil Lines area.

SC allows Sitaram Yechury to visit J&K to meet party colleague Yusuf Tarigami

The SC allowed CPI(M) General-Secretary Sitaram Yechury to visit J&K to meet his party colleague and former-MLA Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, however, directed Yechury to only meet Tarigami and not use the visit for any political purpose. The bench said if Yechury indulges in any political activities, authorities are free to report them to the apex court.

Holding simultaneous polls to the Parliament and state Assemblies is fundamentally anti-federal and anti-democratic and thus, against the Constitution, the CPI(M) said today, listing out the reasons for its opposition to the "artificial attempt" to introduce the "One Nation, One Election" process by the government.
