Cloud cover thwarts PM Modi's plan to watch 2019 solar eclipse

Modi said that though he could not witness the solar-eclipse due to cloud cover in the national-capital, he managed to have a glimpse of it in Kozhikode through live-stream. "Like many Indians, I was enthusiastic about #solareclipse2019. Unfortunately, I could not see the sun due to cloud cover but I did catch-glimpses of eclipse in Kozhikode and other-parts on live-stream," he wrote on Twitter.

Modi pleasantly surprised his Twitter followers when he 'welcomed' a user who had tweeted that the photo of PM viewing the solar-eclipse is becoming a meme. "This is becoming a meme," the Twitter user, Gappistan Radio said, alongside a picture of PM Modi where he is seen wearing-dark-glasses and is looking above in the sky. The PM retweeted the tweet saying, "Most welcome....enjoy :)."

Karnataka: Handicapped kids buried up to neck during solar eclipse to cure deformities

The children looked far too young to understand why they had been planted in the ground while grown-ups sat around smiling. While India ooh-ed and aah-ed at today's solar eclipse, three-physically-handicapped children were buried this way near the city of Kalaburagi, Karnataka, in the hope that they would be cured. A tehsildar is said to have rushed to the spot to rescue the children.
