SpiceJet to give hiring preference to employees of Jet: Chairman

India's SpiceJet Ltd said it will prioritize hiring employees of Jet Airways Ltd who are losing their jobs after the crisis-hit Indian airline halted all flight operations indefinitely this week. "We have already provided jobs to more than 100-pilots, more than 200-cabin crew and more than 200-technical and airport staff," said Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director of SpiceJet. "We will do more."

Of the 638 total big passenger airplanes in Indian skies, 18 Boeing 737 Max aircraft are grounded. That's bad-news, but it dwarfs in the face of many deep air-pockets that India's aviation sector is facing now. High aviation fuel prices, rupee depreciation, excessive parking and landing charges, loads of debt and fare-wars, even some inefficient operations, have been the millstones around the airline industry.

SpiceJet cancels 12 flights today after DGCA grounding

As the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced grounding of all Boeing 737 MAX in India today, SpiceJet said that they have cancelled 14 flights and will be operating additional flights from tomorrow. The airline said that a majority of passengers affected as a result of these cancellations have been accommodated on alternate flights and the rest have been offered a full-refund.
