Act against sugar mills selling sugar below MSP: Food ministry

The food ministry has asked states to ensure that sugar mills are not selling the sweetener at below the MSP, which has been increased recently to Rs 31 a kilogram from Rs 29. In a communication to all the principal secretaries of sugar-producing states, the ministry said mills must follow the Sugar Price(Control) Order, 2018, which directs them to sell sugar at the MSP.
Govt fixes sugar sale quota at 24.5 lakh tonne for March

Sugar millscan sell 24.5L tonne of sweetener in the open market in the current month, the government said. The central government has allocated sugar quota for sale to each of 524 mills the country. "This increase is attributable to various factors. There is a pattern of high sales/dispatches around this time of the year," the food ministry said in a statement.
