Nothing wrong with Rafale deal: Supreme Court dismisses PILs

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed all petitions seeking investigation into $8-billion Rafale deal with French company Dassault, stating it's not the court's job to compare pricing details. CJI Ranjan Gogoi said, "There is no reason for interference in the choice of offset partner and perception of individuals can't be the basis for inquiry in sensitive issue of defence procurement."

Supreme Court To Decide On Rafale Deal Probe Today

The question whether an investigation is needed into the deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets will be decided by the Supreme Court today. The government has opposed it, questioning the court's expertise to review the Rs.59,000-crore deal for 36 planes with French firm Dassault. The petitioners have contended that PM Narendra Modi announced the deal in April 2015, without following the Defence Procurement Procedure.

SC orders razing down of structure where minors were raped

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed prime accused Brajesh Thakur's plea to stay the demolition of the building of Muzaffarpur shelter home, where minor girls were allegedly raped. The court also rejected a petition claiming that Thakur, who ran the shelter home, was tortured in jail and stated that the medical panel found no injuries or signs of torture.
