Top Court Notice To UP Government On Plea Challenging Renaming Of Allahabad

The SC sought response of the Uttar-Pradesh government on a plea filed by Allahabad-Heritage-Society challenging the renaming of Allahabad to Prayagraj. A bench, comprising Chief-Justice SA Bobde and justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant, issued notice to the state government on an appeal filed by the society against the Allahabad HC order of February, 2019 dismissing the PIL against the renaming of the holy-town.
SC commences hearing on pleas challenging abrogation of Article 370

The SC commenced the hearing on a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave a special-status to the erstwhile state of J&K. The hearing before a five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Justice N.V.Ramana, started with senior advocate Raju Ramachandran, appearing for petitioner and bureaucrat-turned-politician Shah Faesal and others, advancing his arguments.
Ravidas Temple: Centre's Offer To Double Land For Construction Accepted

The SC has approved a conditional increase in land to be made available for the construction of the Ravidas-temple in Delhi that it ordered demolished in August, leading to protests and the arrest of Dalit-leader Chandrashekhar Azad. The temple will now be constructed on 400-square-metres of land on the understanding the land will not be used for commercial-purposes and no parking will be allowed.
