Centre Asks Top Court Collegium To Rethink Pick To Head Andhra High Court

The government is learnt to have asked the SC collegium to reconsider its recommendation to elevate a judge of the Allahabad HC as chief-justice of the Andhra Pradesh HC. While returning the file of Justice Vikram Nath last month, the government did not cite any reason, sources said. This is perhaps the first recommendation to be returned to the collegium by the present government.

The Supreme Court Collegium is understood to have deliberated on the issue of elevating chief justices of some of the high courts to the apex court, a source said. Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Pradeep Nandrajog are the chief justices of Delhi and Rajasthan high courts respectively. The source said the decision would be officially announced very soon.
