Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the chair of the US House Financial Services Committee, said that she remained concerned about Facebook's plans for its digital currency Libra. She said this after meeting the government officials in Switzerland over Facebook's plans. "My concerns remain with allowing a large tech company to create a privately controlled, alternative global currency," she said.

The US reclaimed its ranking in the top five countries in the world for economic-innovation, while China climbed from 17th to 14th position in the new-list of nearly 130 nations released. The Global Innovation Index 2019 released by the UN intellectual property-agency, one of its co-sponsors, says "innovation is blossoming around the world" despite an economic slowdown, brewing trade battles and high economic uncertainty.

"I love badass women" and "Eliminate the patriarchy" figured among the messages on posters and banners, as women vented their frustration with persistent gender discrimination and wage gaps in the wealthy Alpine nation.
