Taiwan says Solomon Islands switches recognition to China

The Solomon Islands switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China on Monday, becoming the latest country to leave the dwindling Taiwanese camp. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry confirmed the move, saying the Solomon Islands Cabinet approved a resolution to recognize Beijing as the government of China. There was no immediate confirmation from the Solomon Islands. The possibility of a switch had been widely reported in recent-weeks.

Taiwan challenges Indian ICT duties at WTO

Taiwan has dragged India into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over imposition of import duties on 11 categories of ICT products, in excess of India's bound duty rates, alleging breach of global trade norms. The norms mandate duty-free imports of the products, Taiwan says. However, India says those items are different from the ones on which duties are imposed.

Chinese Taipei moves WTO over tech tariffs

Chinese Taipei on Monday requested 'dispute consultations' with India at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the duties that New Delhi has imposed on imports of certain information and communications technology (ICT) goods such as phones, amplifiers, digital cameras, base stations, optical fibre cables and electronic integrated circuits. The European Union has challenged similar measures by initiating WTO dispute proceedings against India in April.
