Woman Tries To Avoid AIADMK Flagpole On Road, Hit By Truck In Tamil Nadu

A 30-year-old woman who was riding a scooter was hit by a truck on Monday morning after she tried to avoid a flagpole of the AIADMK that had fallen on a highway in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. Anuradha Rajeswari, who was riding the scooter, suffered serious fractures on both her legs after the heavy vehicle's front right wheel ran over them, the police said.

Leader of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) Arjun Sampath on Wednesday draped the statue of Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar in Pillaiarpatti with a saffron shawl and applied sacred ash on the forehead and biceps and put a rudraksha chain around his neck. Garlanding the statue he also prayed before it. The statue was defiled couple of days back.

Onion prices in Tamil Nadu's capital city Chennai have doubled in a week. With onion supply in the city dwindling, a kilo of the vegetable now costs around Rs. 75-80 across the city from last week's Rs. 40-45. Shopkeepers have blamed Maharashtra's Nashik for dwindling supply. Nashik is the key hub from where Chennai procures a significant share of its onions.
