Tax dispute settlements yield Rs 31,000 crore for the government

About three-fourths of eligible taxpayers have settled their legacy excise and service tax-disputes with the tax-department after agreeing to pay Rs.30,627-crore under the Sabka Vishwas scheme till December-end. When the scheme was launched on September-1, 2019, the disputed amount under 1.83-lakh cases was as high as Rs.3.6-lakh-crore. Tax experts said cash crunch with many businesses could have a role in many large-disputes remaining unresolved.
Vodafone Idea presses for Rs 7,000 crore tax refund

Vodafone Idea, India's third-largest telecom service provider, is seeking about Rs 7,000 crore in tax refunds for past years even as it faces fresh statutory dues liability running into thousands of crore that has put the income tax department in a bind, sources privy to the development said. The tax department has in past adjusted refunds against a company's other liabilities towards the government.
HC directs tax department to refund Rs 788.39 crore to Vodafone-Idea

The Bombay High Court has directed the income tax department to refund Rs 788.39 crore to Vodafone Idea Limited within three weeks, bringing relief to the telecom operator which has asked government to provide relief to the debt laden sector. This is the second instance that a tax refund case has gone in Vodafone Idea's favour.
