
U.S., South Korea postpone military drills in bid to bolster North Korea peace effort

The US and South-Korea said they will postpone upcoming military drills in an effort to bolster a stalled peace push with North-Korea, even as Washington denied the move amounted to another concession to Pyongyang. The drills, known as the Combined Flying Training Event, would have simulated air combat scenarios and involved an undisclosed number of warplanes from both the United States and South Korea.

American Man, 2 Others Who Escaped Thai Court Arrested After Shootout

An American drug suspect and his Thai wife who went on the run after they shot and stabbed their way out of a courtroom were apprehended Wednesday, authorities said, with the man shooting his wife and then himself as police closed in. According to local TV, the authorities had acted on a tip-off from a villager in Sa-Kaeo, who saw the couple acting suspiciously.

Suspected separatist insurgents killed at least 15 and wounded four village defence volunteers in a late-night shooting at a security checkpoint in Thailand's Muslim-majority south, security officials said on Wednesday. The attackers in southern Yala province also used explosives and scattered nails on roads to delay pursuers late on Tuesday night in what authorities described as the biggest gun attack in years.
