Centre Closely Monitoring Situation In Rain-Hit Areas: Rajnath Singh

The central government is ready to provide all possible help to states affected by rains and thunderstorms, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday. Mr Singh also said the Ministry of Home Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in all affected areas. Overnight rains in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and some other places have left nearly 39 people dead, officials said.

Lightning Kills 3 In Bengal After Rain, Thunderstorms Hit Kolkata

Three persons were killed after being struck by lightning in East Burdwan district of West Bengal, as rain and thunderstorms hit Kolkata and other districts, disrupting normal life including train services, officials said. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Kolkata said a squall passed over Kolkata (Alipore) with maximum wind speed of 68 kmph at 5.26 pm, followed by gusty northwesterly wind.

Delhi-NCR wakes up to light rain; hailstorm predicted

Delhi and the National Capital Region on Saturday witnessed light rains scattered across the area with the Met predicting more thundershowers and hailstorm later. The drizzle though did not impact the mercury. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius, the season's average. "Thunderstorm with hail is expected to occur during the day," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.
