Tihar Jail Seeks Services Of UP Executioner For Nirbhaya Convicts: Official

The four death-row convicts in the Nirbhaya case are likely to be shifted to Jail No. 3 in Tihar on Friday, where their execution will take place on January-22, a senior-jail-official said. The Tihar Jail authorities have written to the Uttar Pradesh prison authorities, seeking the services of two hangmen from the state to execute the four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape-and-murder case.

Out on bail after spending nearly a month in prison over his protest against the citizenship-law at Delhi's Jama Masjid, Bhim Army-chief Chandrashekhar Azad aka "Raavan" says he had not made any speech at the Jama Masjid when he was arrested, rather just read the Preamble of the Constitution. Chandrashekhar Azad says he will appeal before the court over the restriction imposed on him.

The four-men convicted in the gang-rape, torture and killing of a young-medical-student in Delhi in 2012 will be hanged soon, indicate preparations at Tihar-Jail in Delhi. Legal-options still available to the convicts, however, may stall the process. The convicts are all in different-cells and being monitored through CCTV, say sources. Arrangements for the hanging are being made in Jail Number-3, where executions take place.
