DPOs need to pay new tariff to broadcasters starting Feb: IBF

Distribution platform operators (DPOs) will have to pay broadcasters based on the new pricing starting this month, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation(IBF) has said. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's(TRAI) earlier noted that only 65 percent of cable services subscribers and 35 percent of DTH subscribers have migrated to the new MRP regime, prompting it to extend the deadline to March-end for those who haven't migrated.

Trai allows consumers time till Mar 31 to select channels

The Trai has once again extended deadline for consumers to select TV channels they want to pay for, till March 31st, 2019. There are about 100 million cable service TV homes and 67 million direct-to-home(DTH) households in the country and as per Trai, approximately 65% of the subscribers of the cable services and 35% subscribers of the DTH services have already exercised the options.

DTH operators can offer a second TV connection at a discounted price

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said it's up to the DTH service provider to offer discount on the base price of a second TV connection. This comes after new DTH rules came into effect from February 1. It's now mandatory for all DTH and cable operators to offer a base pack of 100 channels at Rs.130 plus taxes.
