National Population Register to be updated with Aadhaar, other IDs

The National Population Register (NPR), which is a database of 1.3 billion Indians that will be ultimately used to issue citizenship cards, will be updated with individual Aadhaar, passport, driving license, mobile, and voter identity card numbers along with the Census 2021, according to officials who did not want to be named. This is being updated for a second time since 2015.

Telangana SIT to probe case related to unauthorised storage of Aadhaar details

The case relating to "unauthorised usage and storage" of details of 7.82-crore Aadhaar holders from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be transferred to a Special-Investigation-Team appointed by the Telangana government, a senior police official said. Based on a complaint by officials of UIDAI, Cyberabad Police filed one more case against city-based IT Grids India Pvt Ltd for alleged unauthorised use of data of voters.

Aadhaar database not breached, says UIDAI

The UIDAI told the Delhi High Court that there was no security breach of its database or Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR) and sought dismissal of a petition seeking damages for Aadhaar data "leaks". The UIDAI, in an affidavit filed, said its existing security controls and protocols are "robust and capable of countering any such attempts or malicious designs of data breach or hacking".
