Universe gets bigger, map unearths 300,000 more galaxies

A map published by a team of over 200 astronomers, including Indians, has revealed three lakh previously undetected light sources thought to be galaxies. The data comes from a radio survey of 2% of the sky using Netherlands-based Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR) telescope. Astronomers said they expect to find 1.5 crore radio sources in total by surveying the entire Northern sky.

The study, published in the journal Physical Review Letters, proposes a new structural concept, including dark energy, for a universe that rides on an expanding bubble in an additional dimension. The explanation is the "dark energy" that permeates it throughout, pushing it to expand.
