Police in northern India on Sunday bid goodbye to the historic British-era bolt-action rifles after using them for one last salute during the annual Republic Day parade. The Lee-Enfield 303 rifle was the main firearm of British colonial military forces and, despite being designated "obsolete" around 25 years ago, it has been the main weapon used by police in Uttar Pradesh state over seven-decades.
UP Seeks Ban On Popular Front Of India Over Anti-Citizenship Act Violence

The Uttar Pradesh Police has sought a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI), days after its complicity was suspected in the recent statewide violent protests against the amended citizenship law. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said the PFI in a way is the "incarnation" of the SIMI. The PFI's role has been "established" in vandalism in the state, Mr Maurya told reporters.
CAA protests: Death toll in UP reaches 18, 705 arrested, over 5,000 under custody

As city after city in Uttar Pradesh burns over the controversial Citizenship(Amendment) Bill, the death toll in CAA-related protests has now reached 18 in the state. Police said atleast 18-people, including an eight-year-old boy, lost their lives in the state since Thursday in the state. A total of 5,400-people have been taken under custody till now and around 705 have been sent to jail.
