Petrol pumps shut in Delhi today; Arvind Kejriwal blames BJP

All 400 petrol pumps along with linked CNG dispensing units to remain shut from 6 am today to 5 am tomorrow in protest against Delhi govt's refusal to reduce VAT on diesel & petrol in the national capital. The protest has been called by Delhi Petrol Dealers Association. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that it is a BJP-sponsored strike.

No plans to reduce VAT on fuel, indicates Guj Deputy CM

The Gujarat government today indicated that it has no immediate plans to reduce the Value Added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, claiming that such tax revenue is the key source of income. Talking to reporters today, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that the state government had already provided a relief to the people by reducing VAT on fuel last year.

TN govt hints it may not cut VAT on fuel

With prices of petrol and diesel touching record highs, the Tamil Nadu government today hinted it may not cut the VAT on these products, saying they form a key part of the states own tax revenue. Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said the state extends benefits and sops worth Rs.77,000 crore to various segments, with a salary of government employees constituting 70% of its expenditure.
