Vatican Begins Digging Up Graves To Search For Teen Missing For 36 Years

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of an Italian teenager 36-years-ago deepened Thursday after two graves at the Vatican thought to possibly hold her remains were discovered to be empty. Not only was Emanuela Orlandi's body not found, the tombs did not even hold the skeletons of the two-princesses supposed to be buried there. The tombs belonged to two princesses, buried in 1836 and 1840.

Pope Francis enacted sweeping new-legislation to protect children from sexual-abuse within the Vatican and other Holy See institutions in Rome as-well-as by its diplomatic corps worldwide. Previously, the abuse of minors and vulnerable people came under various legal provisions, some of them instituted on an ad hoc basis. The new-provisions mark the first time a unified and rigorous policy for the protection of children.
