Political Parties Starting News Channels, Compromising Journalism: Venkaiah Naidu

By starting their own newspapers, political parties and business groups are promoting their vested interests and compromising the values of journalism, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday. Mr Naidu was speaking at an event organised by the Press Council of India to observe the National Press Day and confer National Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

Vice President Calls For Bifurcation Of Supreme Court

Expressing "serious concern" over inordinate delay in justice delivery, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu pitched for bifurcating the Supreme Court to handle constitutional matters and appeals and also called for creating four regional benches of the top-court for speedy disposal of cases. Mr Naidu said the move would not require an amendment to the Constitution and referred to Article-130 to drive home his point.

India wants peaceful relations with troubling neighbour: Venkaiah Naidu

Without naming Pakistan, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu said that India wants peaceful co-existence with its "troubling neighbour" who is promoting terrorism. Delivering Late Yashwantrao Kelkar memorial lecture, Venkaiah Naidu also said that instances of casteism and religious fundamentalism bring a bad name to the country even if they are sporadic. The program had been organised by the RSS-affiliated student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
