West Bengal Congress leader features in Left Front candidate list, gets expelled

West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) expelled the chairman of the party's medical cell. Dr Rezaul Karim was accused of "unlawful nexus with other political parties". The Congress is currently discussing seat-sharing formula with the Left. The Left Front declared its candidate list on Friday. The list mentions Karim's name as a candidate from Birbhum. Interestingly, it does not mention which party he represents.

A teacher of a reputed school in West Bengal resigned after protests erupted over one of his Facebook-posts, which did not favour describing the CRPF personnel killed in Pulwama-attack as "martyrs". Chitradeep Som, a-36-year-old history teacher, said the school forced him to quit for his February 15 post, questioning the logic behind hailing the jawans as martyrs "as they were just doing their duty".
BJP leader Mukul Roy booked for TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas's murder

The West Bengal Police has named Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy in the FIR regarding the murder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Satyajit Biswas. Mukul Roy is a former TMC member of parliament and served as the railway minister in the Manmohan Singh government. He joined the BJP last year after his relations soured with Mamata Banerjee.
