Government mulling interoperability for public Wi-Fi network: Aruna Sundararajan

The government is considering a proposal to enable interoperability for public Wi-Fi network, which will translate into a seamless connectivity experience for users, a top Department of Telecom official said Friday. "Working in tandem with TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and with service providers, we are hoping to deploy an interoperable public Wi-Fi network," Sundararajan said.

PWD Estimates AAP's Free Wi-Fi Project to Cost Rs 566 Crore

The Public Works Department (PWD) has said the estimated cost for the Aam Aadmi Party's free Wi-Fi project across Delhi would be Rs 566 crore. It added the cost is inclusive of the installation, running and maintenance of the Wi-Fi facilities. The facility will be available within a 100-metre radius from the point where it would be created, a report said.

DoT palns 10,000 WiFi hotspots in a month

The telecom department plans to launch 10,000 WiFi-hotspots across the country next month, building on the success of its public Wi-Fi pilot that offered 600 access-points. "The idea is to launch it first, and refine as we go. We expect to launch 10,000 WiFi-hotspots when we launch it next month, and scale-up to a 100,000 in the first three-months," telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan told.
