Delhi Polls Ahead, AAP Says WiFi Project On Track With 11,000 Hotspots

With just a few months to go for the Delhi assembly elections, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that 11,000 WiFi hotspots will be installed across the city to ensure seamless Internet connectivity for its residents. Despite being a flagship project of the ruling AAP government, its WiFI project has missed several deadlines over the years. Mr Kejriwal said his government has already cleared the proposal.

Cisco, Google join hands to offer high-speed public wi-fi in India

Cisco said it has partnered with Google to roll out free high-speed wi-fi across 200 locations in Bengaluru over the next two-months. The technology major, which has made this announcement l at its India Summit, said these wi-fi zones will be in high-traffic areas in the city and not in railway stations. The locations include public spaces like bus stops, hospitals, government offices, etc.

Government disburses Rs 20,431 crore for BharatNet project

The government has allocated and disbursed Rs 20,431 crore for the BharatNet project till date to connect all 2.5-lakh village panchayats with high-speed broadband network, Parliament was informed Thursday. According to official estimates shared in November 2017, the total cost of both phases of BharatNet was Rs 45,000 crore. Under the BharatNet project about 3620 GPs are planned to be connected over satellite media.
