French Police Break Up Yellow Vest Protest With Tear Gas

French police repeatedly used tear gas and water cannons to break up a protest Saturday by nearly a 1,000 yellow vest demonstrators in the southwest city of Toulouse. A police statement said officers made five arrests after being targeted by missiles thrown by some of the protesters. The police headquarters in Toulouse was not available to comment on the allegations Saturday evening.

French police fired tear gas, stun grenades and water cannon in battles with "yellow vest" protesters trying to breach security cordons on the Champs Elysees in Paris on Saturday ahead of a third rally against high living costs. Three policemen and seven protesters had been injured, spokeswoman Johanna Primevert said. For now, the "yellow vests" enjoy widespread public support.
