Zimbabwe Vice-President's Wife Charged With Attempt To Kill Him

The wife of Zimbabwe's vice president was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing in court to face charges of fraud, money-laundering and attempted murder of her husband. Marry Mubaiwa, 38, who is the wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, was arrested by Zimbabwe's anti-graft commission on Saturday. She was initially detained on suspicion of contravening the country's exchange control act and of fraud.

Marry Chiwenga, the wife of Zimbabwe Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has been charged with attempting to kill him, forging a marriage certificate and money laundering. Marry allegedly removed the medical intravenous drip as well as a central venous catheter when Constantino was in the hospital, causing him to bleed. Marry and Constantino are in the process of separating.

No water in Harare as Zimbabwe faces foreign currency shortage

Zimbabwe's capital shut its main water works citing shortages of foreign currency to import treatment chemicals, the deputy mayor said, potentially leaving the city dry. An El Nino-induced drought has reduced water levels in the country's dams, including Kariba, which supplies the biggest hydro electricity plant and hit the capacity of cities and towns to supply water to residents.
