India imposed 10% import duty on wheat and tur dal with immediate effect to protect domestic growers from cheaper produce available from overseas markets. The move comes ahead of peak wheat arrivals in mandis while tur crop has already been harvested. It is expected to help stem imports of cheaper wheat from Ukraine and Australia. Tur is imported from Myanmar, Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique.
