Union Budget 2017-2018 presented by Arun Jaitley focused heavily on rural spending. India's biggest anti-poverty scheme MGNREGA, has been given its highest allocation ever of INR 48,000 Crores. The scheme provides jobs to an estimated 50 million households. Increasing the Budget for MGNREGA could help the rural poor, hit hardest by the cash shortage that followed the demonetization drive.
