Government data shows that 2,474 out of 3,000 farmers committed suicides across the country in 2015, because of bankruptcy and debts, after taking loans from banks and registered microfinance institutions. Only 9.8% of the farmers committed suicide, because they could not pay back the loans they had taken, from money lenders.
