Indian shuttlers bow out of Singapore Open on forgettable day

The Indian badminton team, including its best bet Sourabh-Verma, bowed out of the Singapore Open after a dismal outing in Singapore on Thursday. Verma lost to Vietnam's Tien Minh Nguyen 21-18 15-21 11-21 in 56 minutes in a men's singles match. Rituparna-Das was show the exit door by Yulia Yosephin Susanto of Indonesia 21-15 13-21 16-21 in a women's singles second round match.

Celebrated Hindi poet Gopaldas Neeraj passes away at 93

Gopaldas Neeraj, a noted Hindi poet and lyricist breathed his last on Thursday. He was 93. According to media reports, Neeraj's health deteriorated on Monday and he was moved to Agra from Aligarh for better treatment. When his condition took a turn for even worse, he was moved to AIIMS in New Delhi. He passed away on Thursday evening, said his family.

BCCI Suspends Stung UPCA Official Pending Probe

A member of IPL-Chairman Rajeev-Shukla's personal staff was suspended pending an inquiry after a sting operation alleged that he sought bribes to facilitate selection of players in the Uttar-Pradesh team. A Hindi news-channel telecast an alleged phone-conversation between Akram-Saifi, an executive-assistant of Shukla, and cricketer Rahul-Sharma in which Saifi is heard seeking favours in "cash and kind" to ensure Sharma's selection in the state-team.
