Two arrested for alleged GST fraud, tax evasion

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) department on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly duping the exchequer of Rs 127 crore by issuing fake GST invoices and not paying the service tax. Amit Upadhyay (40) and Asad Anwar Sayed (42) were sent in judicial custody for 15 days by a local court, a GST official said.

The CBI is likely to approach Interpol for a Red Corner Notice against absconding billionaire jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi who are allegedly the brains behind the over USD 2 billion scam in Punjab National Bank, agency sources said. The PNB had approached the CBI with a complaint on the basis of which the agency had registered an FIR against Modi.

Three children were found dead in a wooden box in their home in Uttarakhands Pithoragarh district on Saturday night, police said. Police believe the children two girls aged 10 and seven and a boy aged four, all siblings might have been playing and got trapped in the box and were asphyxiated to death.

A gold mine may become new India-China flashpoint

China has begun large-scale mining operations on its side of the border with Arunachal Pradesh where a huge trove of gold, silver and other precious minerals valued at about US 60 billion has been found, a media report said. FinMin expects banks to get back over Rs 1 lakh cr

Enthused by successful conclusion of Bhushan Steel case, the Finance Ministry expects banks to write back more than Rs 1 lakh crore after the resolution of all 12 NPA cases referred to insolvency proceedings by the RBI it its first list. Last year in June, RBI's internal advisory committee (IAC) identified 12 accounts, each having more than Rs 5,000 crore of outstanding loans.

Petrol price today touched a record high of Rs.76.24/litre and diesel climbed to its highest ever level of Rs.67.57 as the oil PSUs passed on four weeks of relentless rise in international oil prices to consumers. Petrol price today increased by 33 paisa a litre in Delhi the highest since the daily price revision came into force, according to price notification.

Around 20 villages in Madhya Pradesh's Satna faced a 12-hour power cut on Saturday as two high-voltage wires pass through the area where Home Minister Rajnath Singh's helicopter was scheduled to land. A notice published in a newspaper had warned of a 26-hour power cut. Singh cancelled his second chopper ride following villagers' protests and directed officials to restore power supply.

Tripura govt reserves 10% posts for women in police department

The Tripura government has decided to introduce 10% reservation for women at all levels in the police department. "Initially, we will start with 10% reservation to fight crime against women. Rs 941 cr plan to clean Tapi river in Surat approved: Rupani

A sum of Rs.941.61 crore has been approved for a project, under the National River Conservation Plan, to clean Tapi river that flows past Surat city, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today. Speaking at Sarthana in Surat today, Rupani said that the first phase of the rivers clean-up will cost Rs.408.28 crore, 70% of which will be borne by the Union government.
