Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit West Bengal, Jharkhand today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, will attend the convocation of Visva Bharati University and inaugurate the Bangladesh Bhavan within the campus in West Bengal today. The Bangladesh Bhavan is a symbol of the cultural ties between India and Bangladesh. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also expected to join the leaders at the event.

Fuel prices hiked for 12th day; petrol up over Rs.11, diesel Rs.7.27

Petrol and diesel prices continue to soar and touched another peak on Friday. Petrol was hiked by 36 paise to Rs.85.65 per litre in Mumbai. Diesel prices on the other hand, were hiked by 24 paise to Rs.73.20 per litre in Mumbai. Petrol prices have risen by Rs.11.02 while diesel has risen by Rs.7.27 in the past 12 days in Mumbai.

Rupee strengthens 14 paise against US dollar for the second day

The rupee continued to recover for the second day today, climbing 14 paise to 68.20 against the dollar on increased selling of the greenback by exporters and banks amid rising domestic equity market. Forex dealers said, besides increased selling of the American currency by exporters as well as banks, a higher opening in the domestic equity market supported the rupee.

The city police arrest 14 people for lynching Rajasthan man

The police have arrested 14 people, including four women and two juveniles, for lynching Kalu Ram Bachanram from Rajasthan in Charmajpet on Wednesday. The arrested are Gopi, Ambu, Vasanath kumar, Balan, Nanda, Thirumalaiah, Rajesh, Anusha, Sushila, Indira, Vani, and two minors. They have been remanded in judicial custody. The two minors were sent to State-run remand home. The police are searching the others accused.

The ATM footprint in the state is a few steps ahead of Maharashtra (23/lakh) and Andhra Pradesh (25/lakh) and way ahead of Jharkhand (11/lakh) and Chhattisgarh (13/lakh).

Election Commission Pitches For 'One Year One Election'

The Law Commission had sought EC's opinion on holding general and state elections simultaneously. Rs.17 Lakh Collected After Ticket-Checking Drive At Old Delhi Station

The Delhi Division of Northern Railway conducted a ticket-checking drive today, collecting penalties amounting to more than Rs. 17.17 lakh, a statement from the zonal railway said. During the ticket-checking drive, 3,843 cases of ticket-less travel, unbooked luggage, irregular ticket were detected and penalty amounting to Rs. 17.17 lakh was realised, it said.
