PNB fraud: ED attaches over Rs 171-cr assets of Nirav Modi

In fresh action against Nirav Modi, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth over Rs 171 crore "beneficially owned" by the absconding diamantaire in connection with its money laundering probe in the over USD 2 billion PNB fraud case, the agency said. The agency had recently summoned at least four family members of Modi, including his father, brother, sister and borther-in-law.
37% of govt schools have less than 50 students on rolls: HRD Ministry

Just over one-third or 37.36 percent of the total number of government schools have an enrollment of fewer than 50 children, according to data compiled by the HRD ministry. The ignominious trio leading the charts are Goa (with 76.9 percent government schools having less than 50 students), Himachal Pradesh (73.2 percent) and Uttarakhand (72.3 percent).
Demonetisation effect: Demand for cash rises 7%, says RBI

Peoples demand for cash continues to head northwards compared to pre-demonetisation levels despite the frequency of digital transactions going up and a substantial increase in bank deposits since November 2016. Currency with the public, or peoples demand for cash or currency, is 7% higher at Rs 18.25 trillion at the end of April compared to Rs 17 trillion at the beginning of November 2016.
Man killed by father over his wife's cooking

A 50-year-old man was arrested after he killed his son following a dispute with his daughter-in-law over not cooking vegetables properly. Krishna-(24) was residing with his wife, Rekha-(19), and his father, Shantaram Ujjainkar, at Shastri-Nagar, near Vithalwadi. Central police station sub-inspector S K Shere said, When Krishna told his father to not assault his wife, Shantaram assaulted him and he died on the spot.

Maharashtra police constable Lalita Salve (29), on Monday got the permision from state-police-department to undergo sex-reassignment surgery (SRS). Ms Salve received the written order from G. Shreedhar, superintendent of police of Beed clearing her leave application and is all set to undergo the procedure. Ms Salve will visit the state-run St. George Hospital on Tuesday along with her uncle for the procedure and further-treatment.
Hyderabad: Rs 5,100 crore Rythu Bandhu cheques encashed

Over 40 lakh farmers in Telangana have encashed cheques worth Rs 5,100 crore in banks in the past 10 days. The cheques were distributed by the state government under the Rythu Bandhu Sheme as part of extending Rs 4,000 per acre financial assistance to farmers for ensuing kharif in June.

A recent Facebook post that went viral has shocked many, as it stated that eating food wrapped in newspapers is dangerous to consume. Eating food which is packed in a newspaper is not good. Newspapers use chemicals which contain a high percentage of lead, the primary component of paint. Consumption of lead in any manner is dangerous for health.
Tamil Nadu sounds alert on Nipah virus

In the wake of neighbouring state Kerala reporting several deaths due to Nipah-virus in Kozhikode district, the Tamil-Nadu health department sounded an alert for bordering districts of Kerala intensifying monitoring of fever-cases in Kanyakumari, Coimbat-ore, Nilgiris and Tirunelveli. The state health department alerted the deputy directors of public-health and collectors of the bordering districts to ensure that there is no epidemic outbreak in Tamil-Nadu.

Vizag-bound AP Express catches fire, no casualties

Two coaches of the Andhra Pradesh AC Superfast Express caught fire around 11.50 am on Monday while the train was on its way from New Delhi to Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. India is failing to meet its conservation goals amid declining global biodiversity, even as the world celebrates the International Day for Biological Diversity on Tuesday. IBD marks 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity initiated by the United Nations Convention on Biological Biodiversity.
